Last week, the fella and I headed out to Seattle for a little holiday. We stayed with some friends who were fantastic hosts and took us out for lots of delicious food. My favorite food ended up being the jam that we made ourselves.
Imagine my excitement when I realized that my friends had a mass of raspberry canes growing in their backyard. For me, raspberries come in a little plastic container and they are not cheap. I told my friends that they could hire me to work as the official raspberry harvester because I took a big bowl out every morning and picked to my heart's delight. I tried to follow the '20-1 Raspberry Rule'. For every 20 raspberries I placed in the bowl, I was allowed to eat one. At some point, it became more like the '5-1 Raspberry Rule' but it's ok because there were plenty.
I love raspberries and jam, so it seemed like a natural fit. Plus, Emily wanted to learn jammaking to use all of those gorgeous berries for gifts. I taught her with an old recipe that doesn't use pectin and the end result was wonderful.
She was even kind enough to send me home with a Ziploc bag of frozen raspberries. I tenderly carried them home in my luggage and can't wait to make even more sweet jam here.
I'll post the recipe later. Start gathering your raspberries now!
